We recommend checking with the specific email provider for the most up-to-date information. 1. Gmail (Google):
    • SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
    • Port: 465 or 587
    • SSL/TLS: Yes
    • Authentication: Yes (Your Google account credentials)
    • Gmail SMTP settings support
  2. Outlook (Microsoft):
    • SMTP Server: smtp.office365.com (or smtp.live.com for Outlook.com)

You can visit these support pages for detailed instructions on setting up SMTP for these email providers.

Gmail (Google)

To set up SMTP authentication for Gmail, you’ll use your Google account credentials (your Gmail email address and password) or an App Password if you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Here’s how to do it:

Using Your Google Account Credentials:

  1. Enable Less Secure Apps (for older email clients): Gmail may require you to allow access for less secure apps. To enable this, go to your Google Account settings:
    • Go to your Google Account settings by visiting myaccount.google.com.
    • In the left navigation panel, click on “Security.”
    • Scroll down to the “Less secure app access” section.
    • Turn on the “Allow less secure apps” toggle.
  2. Configure SMTP Settings:
    • In your email client or application, navigate to the SMTP settings.
    • Enter the following information:
      • SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
      • Port: 465 (with SSL) or 587 (with TLS)
      • SSL/TLS: Enable this option (Choose SSL for port 465 and TLS for port 587)
      • Authentication: Select “Password” or “OAuth 2.0” and enter your Gmail email address and your Gmail account password.

Using App Passwords (recommended for accounts with 2FA):

If you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled for your Google account, you should use App Passwords for SMTP authentication:

  1. Generate an App Password:
    • Go to your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com.
    • In the left navigation panel, click on “Security.”
    • Under the “Signing in to Google” section, find “App passwords” and click on it.
    • Follow the instructions to generate a new App Password. Select “App” and “Other (Custom Name)” as the app and give it a name.
    • A 16-character App Password will be generated. Use this password for SMTP authentication.
      • Authentication: Select “Password” and enter your Gmail email address and the App Password you generated.
  3. Save the settings: After entering the required information, save or apply the SMTP settings in your email client.

Using App Passwords is more secure and is recommended when you have 2FA enabled for your Google account. If you don’t have 2FA enabled, using your Gmail password should work for SMTP authentication.

Outlook (Microsoft)

To set up SMTP authentication for Outlook (Microsoft), you will use your Microsoft account credentials, which include your email address and password. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open Outlook: Open your Microsoft Outlook email client or the email application where you want to set up your Outlook email account.
  2. Add an Email Account:
    • In Outlook, go to “File” and select “Add Account” or a similar option depending on your Outlook version.
    • If you are setting up Outlook in another email client or application, look for the option to add an email account, usually located in the account settings.
  3. Enter Your Email Address:
  4. Enter Your Password:
    • Enter your Microsoft account password associated with your Outlook email.
  5. Configure SMTP Settings:
    • After providing your email address and password, the email client will automatically configure the SMTP settings for you. In most cases, it will use the following settings:
      • SMTP Server: smtp.office365.com (or smtp.live.com for Outlook.com)
      • Port: 587
      • SSL/TLS: Enable this option.
  6. Authentication:
    • You will be asked to provide your email account credentials again. Make sure to enter your full email address and the same password you provided earlier.
  7. Complete the Setup:
    • Follow any additional prompts to complete the setup, such as setting up account preferences and folder synchronization.

Your Outlook email account should now be set up with the appropriate SMTP authentication. If you encounter any issues during the setup process, ensure that you have the correct email address and password. Additionally, check Microsoft’s support resources or the email client’s documentation for specific troubleshooting steps based on your version of Outlook.

      • Authentication: Select “Password” or “OAuth 2.0” and enter your Yahoo email address and either your Yahoo account password or the App Password you generated.
  4. Save the settings: After entering the required information, save or apply the SMTP settings in your email client.

Your Apple Mail application is now configured with SMTP authentication for your iCloud email account. Make sure you have the correct email address and password entered. If you encounter any issues or have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled for your iCloud account, consider using an App-Specific Password.
